Halloween Birthday Cupcakes

October 24th, 2015: My friend's son had a birthday and he wanted Halloween as his theme. He wanted a skeleton and spiders. So I made three types of cupcakes. The first set of cupcakes I did were Skeleton themed. I made a chocolate cupcake with Andes mint crumbles in the cake itself, On the bottom of the cupcake I put an Oreo mint thin, and baked them. After they baked I dipped them in a chocolate ganache and Oreo mint crumble to look like dirt. I then topped with white chocolate bones and gummy worms. The second cupcake was a simple light vanilla cupcake, on the base I put a vanilla Oreo to add texture, they were dipped in a light marshmallowy frosting. I piped a web and spider, I added two red candies for the eyes. I thought they turned out pretty cute. The third cupcake was a spice cupcake with a light cinnamon frosting, caramel drizzle and topped with a candy corn or pumpkin. I made this for the adult crowd at the party. Not the best piping job.. Because it was pretty late and I was tired and lazy.. Haha. Now to say that this was all planned would be a lie. I didn't plan on making these cupcakes or designs. I initially had an entire Halloween cake planned out, but it totally flopped. I think the weather had everything to do with it. So plan B was to try and "wow" with what I could do in a single evening before the event. The mom didn't mind just having cupcakes so I knew that she didn't care.. If it was a must to have an entire cake.. I would have baked an entire new one. Thankfully she was cool about it.

                                               Minecraft Sheet Cake

September 23, 2015: So this cake was for a 10 year old little boy named Owen. I got the request on a Saturday night, and it was due Monday about 6pm. Not a lot of time! So after church I began working on it right away. I only had the items at my home available to me. I wanted to give him something cool, and having played minecraft myself.. I knew what I wanted to accomplish. I wanted to make it look like someone was builiding up a home and a farm. Luckily Carson had a lot of the minecraft toys, thanks to my nephew Logan. I had to make sure everything was square and lined up, not very easy. I wish I had a full week to make up all the figures and refine it. A lot of things were crooked, not perfectly square.. And no real technique of piping was used. I wanted to make it as close to minecraft as possible.. And it be correct. He was happy with it, his family was happy with it and that's all that matters. If I had a chance to do it over, I would have perfected a lot of things. Luckily I had rice Krispy ingredients on hand, graham crackers, and a lot of butter! Huge life saver! I had two already frozen cakes in the freezer, which tasted amazing! I used those for the minecraft mountain. I baked a fresh white cake, and filled it with a milk chocolate mousse. I luckily had a large board that I cut in half to make a landscape. Which was very convenient when putting everything together on it. I added two pumpkin lights, one in the house and one over the lava pit. To make it "cool". Haha. My favorite part was watching all the minecraft nerds, putting it together, and explaining things like "oh that's a boat!" Enjoy the pictures!

Star Trek Cake

August 08, 2015: Oh No! A Klingon vessel has shot down one of the Starfleet ships! No worries! The U.S.S. Enterprise is here to save the day! Haha! Okay! Cheesy! I know! But a battle seen near the planet Kronos was my idea.. And here it is! Kronos is being sucked in a black hole as a battle is going on.I think the color of my cupcakes turned out great! My Kronos planet is alright.. Not the best but I think the colors turned out pretty good :)  Fondant is very difficult to work with.. So I'm taking a break from fondant for awhile.. I enjoy piping and buttercream. haha!
